Every summer when I was little, my family and I would trek up to Minnesota for a week-long vacation. We would drive twelve hours and stay at the northern tip of the state, enjoying the country life for a while. We stayed in a cabin, which was exciting for my brother and I. We felt like we were really roughing it!

Back in those days, there were no smart phones, and even now, there is no cell reception there unless you drive a half hour into town. In between fishing, swimming, and hiking, we had a chance to relax and forget about the “city life” for a while.

Every night, we would gaze up at the stars and roast marshmallows over the little charcoal grill that was perched on our cabin deck. My brother loved setting his marshmallows on fire and then making gooey s’mores. I took a more careful approach, as I was not a fan of burnt marshmallows.

After my marshmallows were slightly browned and gooey on the inside, I carefully constructed my s’more and savored every last bite.
