The first step to a great makeup routine is setting a base for foundation
This foundation serves as both a great base and foundation. This is because the ingredients used in the foundation itself are moisturizing to the skin. The ingredients to make the base in your foundation will be shea butter, argan oil, aloe vera gel, witch hazel and a vegetable base emulsifying wax.
In order to add pigment to your foundation, you have the option of either purchasing a mineral makeup in your skin tone or you can make your own skin color pigment by experimentation.
If you choose to make your own makeup in your skin tone you can make it by using cosmetic clays, mica powder, organic cocoa powder or zinc oxide powder.
All of which will provide enough coverage to cover imperfections but not too much to make it seem overdone.
In the process of making your own foundation you’ll need:
- 2 teaspoons of argan oil- The benefits of argan oil is that it is a natural moisturizer that doesn’t clog pores and helps promote a natural glow.
- 1 teaspoon of shea butter- Shea butter serves as an anti inflammatory, which means it reduces inflammation and reduces tumors in the skin (Link) and it also has anti aging properties too. (Link)
- 1/2 teaspoon of emulsifying wax
- 1 tablespoon aloe gel- which gives a moisturizing property.
- 1 teaspoon witch hazel- which gives a toner like affect.
These are the ingredients for the base moisturizer.

If you’re using pre-made mineral makeup you can just mix that with the base mix. If you’re using your own formula, with the zinc oxide, you’ll need to add it to the base with the same quantity as the rest of the ingredients.
As for the cosmetic clays, you’ll have to mix in small bits to prevent clumping. With the cocoa powder, add small amounts and build till desired results.
After applying foundation as our base we’ll get started on how to make your own lipstick.

How To Make Your Own Lipstick With Any Shade You’d Like
For a base lipstick, we’re going to use ingredients which do not dry out the lips and moisturize them. Our base ingredients will be beeswax, cocoa/shea butter and coconut oil.
If you’d like to add color, you can use red food dye without chemical additives, beet juice for a red, for browner shades you can use turmeric, cinnamon, and cocoa butter.
For a matte shade just use clay to the mixture when adding your color. If you don’t want to use beeswax, you can use soy wax, which has the same consistency.
To make your lipstick you’ll need:
1 teaspoon beeswax pastilles (or soy wax), and a tablespoon of cocoa butter or shea butter, and one teaspoon coconut oil – Coconut oil has anti fungal and antibacterial properties which allows your skin to remain supple yet also prevents any infections and shortens healing time.

With these ingredients, melt them into one small container and then separate them to color them if you’d like.
With the red hues of color, be sure to start off with 1/8th of a teaspoon as the beet juice dye goes a long way. Build your shade accordingly afterwards. If you’re using food dye 1 drop should be enough.
If you’re doing any brown or tan shade you can simply use 1/4 of a teaspoon of cocoa powder, turmeric or cinnamon.
For a more matte shade, just add a small bit of bentonite clay.
You can also add essential oils for a scent, if you want your lipstick to have a scent.
